From 7AD to 15 century Islam was a major temporal power – however 15th century onward the pendulum swung to the west – Muslim witnessed colonisation of their land from the 17th century onward until the dismantlement of the caliphate in 1924.
They failed to withstand the onslaught of western civilisation – the reason for the western world’s success was failure of the Ottoman Empire to industrialise.
Muslim spirit was broken and secularism was planted in their lands.
Muslim fought the wars of colonialism only to see the bastard offspring of their former colonial master in charge……..

There were a number of revival movements in the Muslim world – but they were superficial in their attempts – really westernisation in an Islamic garb
The Islamist – are exoteric literalist and unable to challenge the west on a vertical level
The true intellectuals who have always struggled against the philosophers were the mystics - they renewed the spirit of the faith at the beginning of each new century.
